Prone Foil Surfing Beginners Perspective 7 - Getting on and off!
Fri 05 Nov 2021Author: John Nayler
Here is a few tips for about getting on and off a prone foil surfboard or any type of foil board for that matter.
When getting a typically surfboard style swim onto the back is going to have your legs kicking over the top of the rear of the foil structure and the stabiliser. Edges of that are typically a bit sharp and likely to cut your foot. Best idea, get onto your prone foil surfboard from the side.
More importantly, getting off! The last thing you want to do is have an injury from the board or foil structure. It's going to hurt and if you go over the front or the side, then an accident is more likely to happen.
When you have lost control of your prone foil surfboard or can feel it starting to happen, then there is little chance of your recovering as a beginner and so be sure to fall off the back. The result is that the board and foil structure will continue forward while you gracefully fall into the water away from it. The foil's lift will probably send the board vertical and stop at the end of your leg rope.
After 30 hours of learning to prone foil surfing I have not yet adjusted for more lift - which gives stability and consistency while you are in beginner mode.
Happy foiling!
